Ever since the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the future of Wagner Group’s mercenaries has been in question. The Kremlin often does not fund the group as an independent organization. Its members must therefore either submit to the Russian Ministry of Defense or seek other employment. For example, take the opportunity to join the Belarusian Guard Service security organization known as the Szejman Group.
“Bodyguards” of the Lukashenko Regime
According to unofficial information from the Center of National Resistance, all Wagnerians in Belarus who did not want to sign an agreement with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and did not want to fight in Ukraine volunteered to join the guard service.
The organization was established in 2020 as the only security organization allowed to use firearms in Belarus. From the beginning, it used former officers of the Belarusian security services. It was recorded by the company of Viktor Sheiman’s business partner Anna Pushkareva (dubbed “Lukashenko’s Eminence Crisis”) and his ex-wife’s niece, Belchat reports. Its main task is to “counter opposition in the event of a political situation unfavorable to Alexander Lukashenko”.
Currently, Szejman’s Group mainly trains military skills. He trains near Minsk at the special production center of the Dynamo Minsk sports club. Security guards learn other things: offensive operations in the city, clearing buildings, engineering preparation.
