The Mets put James McCann on IL; Starling Marte Mode Unknown

James McCann is back on the injured list for the second time this season, but Buck Showalter expects the Mets catcher to miss at least 10 more days.

McCann suffered a slash injury while marking the sixth inning of Saturday’s 10-game win over the Marlins. He also spent more than six weeks in IL with a broken hand before it was activated on June 25. Patrick Mazeika of Triple-A Syracuse was called to support Thomas Nido at the end of Sunday’s series at Citi Field.

“[GM] Billy [Eppler] “I just got the info, so I won’t go too deep, but it’s not just going to be a DL period,” Buck Showalter said. It will take more than 10 days. Obviously for the team as well, but I’m disappointed with it.

Marte, a potential All-Star pick for the Mets when the reserves are announced later on Sunday, has cut .380/.436/.600 over his last 13 games to raise his overall average to .291 with an OPS of .803. Kramer Robertson was at the club before the game was ready to take effect if it was determined that Marte also needed a stint in IL.
