He kidnapped his own child and blocked the airport
The incident took place on Saturday evening. A 35-year-old man intended to flee to Turkey with his daughter. He crashed his car into the gate of Hamburg Airport and drove directly onto the runway. It stopped next to a Turkish Airlines passenger plane that was preparing to take off.

18 hours of negotiation
Police continued to negotiate with the man through the night and reported Sunday morning that the “situation is still stable.” Negotiations were held in Turkey.
As “Bild” found out, the man managed to set several fires at the airport during the night – the airport fire brigade intervened. “He threw two flaming bottles from the car, it was like a Molotov cocktail,” said Thomas Gerbert, a spokesman for the federal police. Firefighters poured water on the plane as a safety precaution because there was a risk that the “Audi driver might try to set it on fire again.”
Just before the man entered the airport, his wife informed the police. “During the emergency call, she alerted officers that her husband was rushing to the airport — with a child,” Bild found. She said that her husband kidnapped the child on Saturday evening.
The background is often a child custody dispute. Initial media reports said two children were in the 35-year-old’s car.
