In the fourth episode of the “Reset” series, Michał Rachoń and Sławomir Cenckiewicz present the facts related to the 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest. From a document entitled “On the Policy of the Republic of Poland towards Russia and Ukraine” It shows that Brodkiewicz cut himself off from Poland’s all-east policy and hoped that Russia would back down in its aggressive, imperialist ambitions, as its strategic goal was the perpetuation of a tactical and practical alliance with the West.

In the note, Bratkiewicz argues strongly with the statement that Russia is Poland’s enemy, and that his perception of Ukraine is similar to that of Russia, and that Ukraine itself appears to be a failed state.

Bratkiewicz’s reference was to the official position of the Polish government in Bucharest. A month earlier, during a meeting with US President GW Bush, Prime Minister Donald Tusk argued that the positions of the government and President Lech Kaczyński were almost identical.

The then head of government was far from the truth. President Lech Kaczyński publicly called for Ukraine and Georgia to join NATO. The PO-PSL government took a completely different stance from that of Angela Merkel and the authorities in Berlin.
