“Until now, this type of aircraft carrier was developed only by developed countries. Today India has taken another step towards becoming such a country” – Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged his pride in the new ship.
The cost of building INS Vikrant is estimated at $3 billion. In the past three years, only two countries, China and the UK, have commissioned a new aircraft carrier.
The ship enters service
This is the second ship of this type for the Indian Navy. The first, INS Vikramaditya, has been in service for nearly a decade.

Only a few countries can boast of having more than one carrier in active service. China has two ships, Great Britain and Italy. The US Navy has 11 aircraft carriers. For example, Russia has only one such ship – Admiral Kuznetsov, which has been in service since 1985.
