Salazar: Andonovski has to make tough decisions about the USWNT World Cup roster

Sebastian Salazar is projecting the USWNT World Cup roster and believes coach Vlatko Andonovski has tough decisions to make ahead of the tournament.

It was reported on Friday that USA captain and veteran defender Becky Sauerbrunn will not be included in the Women’s World Cup squad due to a foot injury she sustained in April.

The news was first reported by The Athletic.

Sauerbrunn is one of several injured American players to miss the tournament, which starts on July 20 in Australia and New Zealand, after striker Mallory Swanson suffered a knee injury in April.

Midfielders Sam Moyes and Catarina Macario were also left out for the defending champions.

Sauerbrunn, 38, is one of the team’s longest serving players with 216 caps. She helped the Americans win World Cup titles in 2015 and 2019. Her most recent international appearance was in a friendly match against Ireland in April.

Head coach Vlatko Andonovski is set to announce his 23-man squad immediately and was reported to have told the players on Thursday whether he planned to sign them.
