The formal signing of the equipment purchase agreement took place at the 1st Warsaw Armored Campus in Vesola.
Said the head of the Ministry of National Defense Agreement to purchase Abrams “Offers to purchase 250 M1A2 SEP v.3 tanks, including 26 technical support vehicles and 17 accompanying bridges, as well as a training and logistics package and ammunition reserve.” – The value of the order is approximately $ 4.75 billion net – he added.
– This is a very important reinforcement. As I announced, the Abrams tanks will go to the 18th mechanized section, the iron section. The tanks operate east of the Vistula River. Their mission and the effect of the Polish government strengthening the Polish army was to prevent a potential invader. We all know what is going on beyond our eastern border, he said.
According to Minister Błaszczak, “28 Abrams tanks will be delivered to Poland this year”. “Delivery will end in 2026,” he said.
Poland is unique in Europe
The M1 Abrams tanks are in service in various versions with troops from Morocco, Kuwait, Iraq, Egypt, Australia, Saudi Arabia and soon Taiwan. They were used in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Islamic State (IS) and the Saudi government took part in the war against the so-called Abrams of the Iraqi army during the Yemeni civil war.
In Poland, the 18th mechanized division, currently equipped with Leopard and T-72 tanks, is armed with Abrams tanks. Poland – with the exception of US ground forces in Europe – will be the only user of this tank on the old continent.
