Kwesi Adofo-Mensah on Justin Jefferson's contract: Plans cannot be made without 'king axis'

Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson got a new starting quarterback Thursday night, but the wait for his next contract continues.

Other wideouts such as AJ Brown, Devonta Smith and Amon-Ra St. have received offers. Brown recently extended extensions, but talks between Jefferson and the Vikings did not result in an agreement on a long-term deal. Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said Saturday that progress has been made and that the two sides have paused talks because the Vikings and Jefferson representatives have other business to attend to during the draft.

Adofo-Mensah said that's a good thing because the team wants to put the spotlight on Jefferson only once the deal comes to fruition.

“Either way, when we sign him, we want Justin to do it He has a whole week“You know that friend who has a birthday that's a month away?,” Adofo-Mensah said, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com. I think Justin would deserve his entire month if we signed a contract to celebrate him. We are excited to work on making this happen. We are going to keep going. You can't have all these plans when you're talking about all these visions and not talking about the King's Axis, so we'll keep working toward that ultimate goal.

Representatives for Adofo-Mensah and Jefferson will have a lot to discuss as the same firm represents both Jefferson and first-round quarterback JJ McCarthy. Putting things in place for this duo to thrive together on the pitch for years to come benefits all parties, so we'll see if that helps speed things up at the negotiating table in the coming weeks.
