Klay Thompson shares emotional farewell message to Warriors, fans after trade to Mavericks – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

At the end of an era, Klay Thompson officially said goodbye to the Golden State Warriors and Dub Nation.

The four-time NBA champion posted a heartfelt post on his Instagram page Friday afternoon, thanking the team and fans for the memories over the past 13 years.

“Oh Bay Area, there are not enough words or pictures to express my true feelings for you,” Thompson wrote, in part. “From the bottom of my heart, I thank you so much for the best times of my life. It has been an honor to wear a Dubs jersey since day one. I truly wanted to be the best I could be and help bring as many championships to the area as possible. …

“Don’t be sad it’s over, just be happy it happened. Until we meet again. The captain is gone.”

The post was accompanied by 10 photos and videos from Thompson’s time in the Bay, including one from the night he was drafted in 2011; a shot alongside Warriors family trio Steph Curry, Draymond Green and himself; a video of his beloved dog, Rocco, walking through the Warriors tunnel, and of course, a scenic video of him walking around the Bay.

Thompson has agreed to join the Dallas Mavericks to team up with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in a five-team sign-and-trade deal — closing the curtain on a historic Warriors dynasty that changed the game of basketball.

Thompson’s career with the Warriors is over after 13 NBA seasons and four championships, but as his latest social media posts prove, the memories and legacy he left behind in the Bay will live on forever.
