Huge fire in Indonesia. Among the victims were children

Earlier the fire broke out 17 Polish hours and took out fuel warehouses belonging to the state company Pertamina. News.detik.com reported that as the fire spread, surrounding houses and buildings were damaged. A Pertamina employee estimated, based on preliminary information, that the fire started in a burst pipe — possibly due to a lightning strike.

“Yes, that’s right, the fuel depot fire also affected residents’ homes,” the representative said. Indonesian fire brigade AP reported that 180 firefighters and 37 fire engines were involved in the blaze.

People panicked and tried to run away as the fire spread rapidly. The flames rose, accompanied by clouds of thick smoke, making egress difficult.

Services provided information on victims and injured. According to the first reports, 14 people died on 18.03 Polish time, the number increased to 16, including two children.

Dozens of injured people were hospitalized. Some, after basic care, were released home.

Those who sustained significant injuries were admitted to capital hospitals.

The fire was brought under control around 6.30 pm.
