The nephew took care of his mentally retarded uncle until his death in November 2022. In the last years of his life, Father Edmund Dillinger lived in seclusion in the city of Friedrichsthal in West Germany. He died at the age of 87, taking a dark secret to his grave.
The secret was accidentally discovered while cleaning the priest’s uncle’s house after his nephew died. In the priest’s office he finds boxes containing shocking items.
“Suddenly I had the documents in my hand, and it froze me at first,” Steffen Dillinger admitted in an interview with Rhein-Zietung.
German media reports that Edmund Dillinger immortalized the obscene scenes in about 700 slides from the 1960s. They show mainly men, young men, but clearly minors. Some of the photos are, according to press reports, “extremely obscene”.
“You can see him letting himself in more and more. He has no inhibitions – apparently he has nothing to fear – says the priest’s obnoxious nephew.
The priest must also describe the sexual abuse of one of the victims in his diary.
“It had a dimension that left me speechless. What are we talking about? This is more than five decades of documented abuse,” says Steffen Dillinger.
It was misused during pilgrimages, church camps or trips to Africa.
Allegations were made in 2012.
Already in 2012, the first allegations against Dillinger appeared. They were concerned about “sexual abuse” by a priest in the 1970s. As a result, Dillinger was transferred to North Rhine-Westphalia and banned from celebrating Mass. The case went to the prosecutor’s office, but the investigation was stopped due to the statute of limitations, according to Bild.
Edmund Dillinger was born in Trier, where he was a diocesan priest. He also worked as a teacher in Charlouis and Saarbrücken. He received the Federal Cross of Merit for his contribution to the development of Africa.
