Schaefer’s colleague from the CDU, former family minister Christina Schröder, also spoke. According to him, science speaks to norms of masculinity that legitimize violence. He believes the “macho culture” among young people from Muslim backgrounds is responsible.
“Often the understanding of masculinity and honor is associated with violence,” Schroeder said.
She admitted that women in Germany are harassed in subway stations, city centers and even schoolyards.
“I understand very well the uncertainty and sometimes fear of young women in these situations. In her opinion, the governing coalition should deal with such integration problems rather than re-educating society on gender issues,” said Andrea Lindols, deputy head of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag.
