Cameron Lato’s knee and other injuries impact 49ers’ 53-man roster – NBC Sports Bay Area & CA

SANTA CLARA — The 49ers will have some injuries to consider when making their starting 53-man roster on Tuesday.

Newcomer Cameron Lato has suffered a recent injury. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Saturday afternoon that Lato, a third-round pick, will likely undergo surgery to repair the damaged meniscus in his knee.

Injuries involving wide receivers Danny Gray, Ray McCloud, and Chris Conley, as well as kickers Jake Moody and Zane Gonzalez, also affect the team’s roster decisions.

“All of this plays into one another,” Shanahan said on a conference call with Bay Area reporters. “We’re not ready to make a decision yet, but it all plays into the 53’s.

“We know the positions we want. We know the numbers we need. We’ve got to see who’s available. Some of those people who’ve been hurt, like Ray Ray, Danny Gray, and now Cam, we’ll just have to see how long it takes and if we think about it.” in infrared or something for 53.”

Moody’s status in the 49ers’ season-opener on Sunday, September 10 at the Pittsburgh Steelers remains in doubt. He pulled his quadriceps while training this week.

Gonzalez was scratched out of the pre-season finals on Friday night with a calf strain during pre-game warmups. Shanahan said Gonzales is expected to be out “for a few weeks.”

The 49ers lined up for workouts with the Kickers in case Moody wasn’t ready to take on the Steelers.

“I’ve never been in this situation before where we have two really good players in our camp and a few days before the 53rd Final, both players are unavailable at this time,” Shanahan said. “These next few days are important just for us to see how the rehab process goes and try to guess where it will be two weeks from now when we start.”
