A suicide bomber blew himself up at the gates of the Russian embassy, ​​Kabul police said. The blast occurred around 11 a.m. Kabul time when a Russian official was interacting with visa applicants. There was a long line in front of the embassy at the time of the bombing.

“There are deaths,” Reuters reported on Monday. The agency added that the Taliban shot dead a suicide bomber.

“The death toll has been set,” Kabul police were quoted as saying by Reuters.

Russia is one of the few countries to maintain an embassy in Kabul after the Taliban took power a year ago. Although Moscow has not officially recognized the new government, it has negotiated a deal with Kabul to supply gasoline and other goods.
