Bed Bath & Beyond says it will close 3 more Bay Area stores

Locally influenced stores include the San Jose location at 5353 Almaden Expressway, the Antioch location at 5719 Lone Tree Way, and the Vallejo location at 105 Plaza Drive. A Bed Bath & Beyond spokesperson told SFGATE that specific closing dates “will vary by store” and that “store closing sales will begin and continue over the next few months.”

The Union, New Jersey-based brand announced last September that it would close 150 “less productive” stores and lay off 20% of its employees as part of a new plan for the company. Since then, two more stores are located in Larkspur and San Leandro permanently closed.

“At the beginning of the third quarter, we initiated a turnaround plan centered on serving our loyal customers, after a period in which merchandise and strategies deviated from their preferences,” Sue Goff, president and CEO of Bed Bath & Beyond, said in a statement Tuesday. “Although we moved quickly and effectively to change the assortment and other sales and marketing strategies, inventory was restricted and we did not meet our goals.

“We will continue to rebalance our assortment toward national brands and improve our mix of proprietary brands to reflect the deep understanding of our customers, along with the selection and value that only we can offer in the home and children’s markets. We are actively pursuing higher inventory levels to meet proven demand.”
