North Korea launches missile from spy satellite Urgent in Seoul

North Korea told Japan’s coast guard on Monday that it planned to launch a satellite between May 31 and June 11. On Wednesday morning it turned out that the attempt had already been made, but the satellite fell into the sea off the west coast of the Korean peninsula and disappeared from radar.

An anti-aircraft alert has been issued in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. People woke up to sirens. After 20 minutes it turned out not to be necessary.

– I do not believe that there will be a war, but after the war in Ukraine, I began to think that North Korea or China might attack Korea. [Południową] the 33-year-old Seoul resident told the BBC.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement that the satellite rocket was launched at 6:30 a.m. local time from the country’s northwestern Dongchang-ri region, home to South Korea’s main space launch site.
