College football results, rankings, highlights: Ohio State, USC among top 10 teams to kick off in week three

Week three proved to be a huge moment for the top 10 teams around college football. USC’s seventh-placed improved to 3-0 in Lincoln Riley’s first season on Saturday night with a win over Fresno State 45-17 behind a strong all-around attack. Quarterback Caleb Williams threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns, while backers Travis Day and Austin Jones both scored and hit 100 yards on the ground. Riley’s tenure hot start marks the first time USC has scored at least 40 points in the first three games of the season since 2005—the year that the Trojans Texas played in the national championship.

Fresno State quarterback Jake Hainer was forced off the field early in the third quarter after sustaining a leg injury when he was sacked by University of Southern California’s Solomon Bird. The Bulldogs were only 21-10 behind at the time, but the All-Mountain West performance loss was an insurmountable loss.

While USC’s showing was impressive, a top-10 team’s best offensive outing on Saturday was third in Ohio State. The Buckeyes totaled 763 yards—the second most in school history—and 36 first touchdowns in a 77-21 defeat of Toledo. Quarterback CJ Stroud threw for five touchdowns, and Emeka Igboka, Jayden Ballard and Marvin Harrison Jr. each hit 100 yards.

While each of the top 10 teams in the business during Week 3 won in double digits, there was plenty of drama throughout the sport as No. 11 Michigan State, No. 12 BYU and No. 13 Miami all lost. Check out the full scoreboard that summarizes the procedure below.
