The CID yesterday sought permission from the Anuradhapura Magistrate to further detain a suspect, Rasawellawan Tabo Ruben, in the suicide bomb attack in October last year which killed North Central Provincial Council Opposition leader Major General Janaka Perera and 35 others.
The CID told Magistrate Dharshika Wimalasiri that the suspect was wanted in several other cases. The Magistrate granted permission and remanded the other suspects. The case was postponed for October 30.The CID also told Court that it had completed all investigations.
The CID told Court that that it had forwarded its investigations to the Attorney General’s Department and the latter had informed that it would send the report soon.
The Court was earlier told that the LTTE had contracted the suspects to carry out the attack for a payment of Rs 8.4 million.
Those killed in the attack included Major General Janaka Perera, his wife Vajira Perera, UNP Provincial Councillors, Sunil Dissanayake, A. Anurdeen, a former provincial minister Rajah Johnpulle, senior Attorney A. C. S. Hameed and journalist Rasheem Maharoof.
