Nuwara Eliya is gearing for the April holiday season

The Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council under the guidance of the Mayor is having discussions with a number of social and sports bodies in this connection.

Nuwara Eliya expects a large influx of holiday makers and most hotels, guest houses and private bungalows are receiving heavy bookings.

The inclement weather conditions recently experienced have now abated. Nuwara Eliya is now experiencing bright sunshine with the flowers in full bloom in a multitude of colour. Motor racing, sports festivals, golfing and musical shows are some of the activities earmarked for the forthcoming April season.

The Sabaragamuwa University was closed yesterday following a lecture boycott by students responding to a student union decision.

The University was closed indefinitely and all the students were asked to vacate the University premises, until further notice. A spokesman for the Sabaragamuwa University told the Daily News that discussions are in progress to take action.

The University will function as usual after reestablishing a proper academic environment.

Meanwhile, University Vice Chancellor Prof Mahinda Rupasinghe reiterated that the present trend has to be stopped and normality should prevail in the Universities. He said the closure of the University is temporary and University will begin academic works soon.
